ArtemiSea

introduction

Following a two-year transformation, the luxury yacht ArtemiSea brought a bold new design and cutting-edge technology to the 55-meter vessel. The vessel underwent a comprehensive technical upgrade, modernizing outdated infrastructure while preserving its original character. This meticulous remodeling blended heritage with innovation, through intentional design decisions crafted to benefit both charter guests and the crew.

the challenge

The goal of this project was to deliver an intuitive and luxurious onboard experience. To help tackle this mission, the owners enlisted Theodore Tsempelis of AVentTech to implement a system capable of supporting dynamic charter operations with adaptable, personalized control interfaces.

the solution

Following a site visit, AVentTech understood the layout and needs of the space, which provided a starting point for what features would be best tailored for this vessel. The team brought on Kyriakos Papadopoulos of kpapadopoulos Design and Engineering to deliver a custom Crestron solution that met the required adaptability of the high-end marine environment. As a Crestron Services Provider (CSP), Papadopoulos was able to tie in numerous third-party systems and custom UI controls for a premium experience.

the technology

The first priority for this yacht was to add support for dynamic charter options. With a diverse range of guests that rotate into this space each year, the control system needed to be highly adaptable and capable of delivering a personalized, user-specific experience for each new guest. Through the Crestron system, each client has a personalized profile complete with custom requests. These profiles can be prepped by the crew or created by the client themselves. This allows the crew to customize requests per cabin and per guests, tailoring the experience at an even more micro-level, allowing controls over lighting preferences and sound levels to be chosen per individual rather than assigning generalities to the entire group.

Custom audio scenes are only a single button press away, empowering guests to select playlists and volume levels that can synchronize with the mood for that time of day. The dynamic lighting scene editor enables the crew to create and save lighting presets, automating scenes based on the sunrise and sunset data relative to the location of the vessel. With over 300 DALI® lighting loads on board, the Crestron system becomes not just a luxury but an operational necessity. The lighting scheduler equips the crew to manage complex lighting scenarios with precision, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual adjustments each morning and evening. These preferences can even be stored for future visits, so if a client returns a year later, their previously saved music favorites, lighting scenes, and personal requests are already available to deliver a level of luxury that sets a new standard in guest experiences.

Another top priority for this ship was a streamlined crew workflow that would enhance crew efficiency with a system that could simplify routine tasks, automate repetitive actions, and enable the crew to respond quickly to the needs of their guests. This would free up valuable time to allow for a high-touch service environment.

Crestron touch screens with built-in SIP audio functionality supported integrated communication and aligned with the yacht’s minimalist design, while the advanced “Steward Call” function introduced a streamlined, text-based interface for guest requests. System tweaks were also made possible without the need for a programmer, enabling the crew to adjust and create scenes on the fly to react in real time to requests of their guests while on a charter.

While the system can conquer complex actions, it remained important that the interface is simple and intuitive. To minimize the learning curve for new users, the UI was designed to feel instantly familiar, replicating the experience of smartphones and tablets. A new graphical 3D interface allows users to interact with a floor plan of the vessel, tapping on individual rooms to control lighting, shades, and audio with real-time feedback. This brought an intuitive, spatially aware layer to onboard automation. In addition to touch screens and tablets, Crestron Handheld Touch Screen Remotes are available in all lower deck cabins, providing accessible control through touch or voice commands over the TV, lighting, shades, and music. Multi-room audio and automated shades were both added to this transformation to elevate the experience onboard further.
