Sky-High Smart Living
Crestron Home OS automates 801 apartments in this luxe waterfront property named ‘Ultimate Multi-Dwelling Unit’

introduction

One Sydney Harbour is one of Australia’s tallest multi-dwelling unit buildings and is comprised of three residential structures in Barangaroo, Sydney, Australia. Designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano, the impressive building boasts 801 smart homes, each offering its residents a fully integrated home automation experience.

the challenge

One Sydney Harbour wanted to establish a new benchmark of luxury living while prioritizing sustainability and community integration. The technology implemented needed to elevate the living experience and be easy to use for all residents, no matter their age or technological background. Serving as a point of difference, the client also wanted to prioritize convenience, comfort, and connectivity while embracing sustainability.

the solution

After learning about the project and carefully balancing customer experience and implementation complexity, integrator Kayder recommended using Crestron Home® OS to meet all necessary requirements. One Sydney Harbour houses over 800 apartments with Crestron Home OS as the backbone, empowering residents with unparalleled control and convenience.

"We have selected crestron solutions as we tested and trialed it in various other projects and we knew it would offer the best quality, flexibility, and scalability for the centre."

the technology

The Crestron Home platform was leveraged for each apartment to provide residents with seamless control over their own living space and a custom Crestron control system was used for the common areas such as the lobby, pool, gym, and retail areas. Combining Crestron Home OS and a custom system ensured that the entire residential complex is operating as a cohesive, integrated solution.

Each unit features Crestron processors, touch screens, Horizon® keypads, and additional interface options through the Crestron app. These interfaces control the apartment's lighting, shading, and climate based on the residents’ likings. Tenants are also able to schedule scenes such as “Away Mode” to save energy by disabling scheduled events. All lighting has scene-based controls from the keypads as well as individual control from the touch screens and app.

One Sydney Harbour is focused on minimizing energy consumption by incorporating dimmed lighting scenes and automated blinds to maximize daylight harvesting. Crestron custom processors and occupancy sensors govern lighting with precision across communal spaces like entrances, concierge areas, and parking and recreational facilities. To offer a connected experience to the end user, extensive integration with building services, including the control of the façade blinds, a weather warning system, an intercom, and access control were added.

All apartments feature integrated Crestron motorized curtains that can be controlled via all interfaces. Another luxurious feature is heated towel rails in the bathrooms, which have a one-hour safety timer controlled through Crestron. The bathrooms also have underfloor heating, which can be changed manually by the Crestron thermostat or operated as a scheduled event.

Building safety is a high priority, which is why each apartment system integrates with the building access control to manage guest access. The Crestron touch screens are used to enable building access and unlock the pathway entry door to the corresponding apartment. Each tower has intercom services with each apartment utilizing the touch screens as an answering unit so that the tenants can communicate with the front desk concierge.

"The tenants love the customization they have in their apartment and how they can control everything, even remotely through Crestron."
