introduction

This Lonetree, Colorado property is a design-forward smart home that thoughtfully blends industrial, modern, and farmhouse architecture into a cohesive family friendly oasis. Grounded in its natural surroundings with a touch of novelty, the house is wrapped in rich red brick contrasted with black metal siding and window treatments. The exterior features are carried inside with large brick walls, black accent trims, and wood details appearing throughout the living spaces.

the challenge

While the homeowners wanted effortlessly integrated technology that would quietly support their lifestyle, it was paramount that the simple, timeless design features remained the focal point. The technology needed to blend elegantly into each space, matching surrounding walls and complementing the character of each room. The homeowners also wanted a consistent and user-friendly control experience throughout the entire home.

the solution

Quality Audio Video (QAV) was brought into the project during the architectural planning stage, allowing the technology strategy to evolve alongside each of the design phases. The early collaboration made it possible to align systems with the layout, lighting layers, and material selections. QAV proposed the Crestron Home® OS as the ideal platform, offering the reliability, elegance, and scalability required, while remaining intuitive and unobtrusive.

the technology

The Crestron Home OS provides the homeowners with a polished, intuitive user experience that delivers both immediate ease of use and long-term value through ongoing platform updates. Serving as the anchor for the lighting control, shade automation, and AV distribution Crestron Home unifies everything under a single, elegant interface. Designed to complement the modern architecture of the home, the user interfaces were outfitted with specific colors or neutral faceplates to blend seamlessly into the environment.

Each technological element in the home was thoughtfully curated to match the design of the space. The system includes whole-home lighting control using Crestron wired lighting modules and Crestron ultimate in-ceiling subwoofers paired with DM NAX® Audio-over-IP technology for immersive audio everywhere. The speakers are aligned perfectly with the lighting layouts and ceiling grids, ensuring symmetry and cohesion and adding to the visual appeal of the home. The integrated Crestron motorized shades and drapes are concealed within custom ceiling pockets, allowing the rooms aesthetics to take center stage. Horizon® keypads were implemented for elevated tactile control, and Crestron touch screens for whole-home access and intercom.

Lighting, music, and shading scenes are the most frequently used features, activated through automated schedules, or manually triggered using Horizon keypads or Crestron touch screens. Keeping the design features at the forefront of the home, both the keypads and touch screens were carefully placed to match the flow of the home’s architecture. The scheduling sequences allow the homeowners to shift the mood from bright, open daytime living to warm, cozy evenings without lifting a finger.

From the brick-lined great room and open kitchen to the expansive outdoor living areas overlooking the landscape, entertainment features were key for the homeowner’s lifestyle. Crestron DM NAX Audio-over-IP technology distributes audio throughout the whole home including the basement theater, indoor gym, outdoor patio, pool, and pickleball area, while DM NVX® AV-over-IP technology delivers content across different screens, never missing a beat.
