Crestron introduces Digital QMT™ shade motor paired with intelligent power supply

Industry-first brushless motor sets new standard for energy efficiency and silent operation of Crestron window shades

At CEDIA Expo in Denver, Crestron will usher in a silent new age for motorized window shades. The company will introduce its Digital QMT™ (Quiet Motor Technology) motor, a technological leap in the shading industry, and a power supply (CSA-PWS10S-HUB-CAEN) that supports up to ten motorized shades and provides integrated diagnostics and controls.

        New Digital QMT motor
The Digital QMT motor delivers silent, precise, and highly energy-efficient operation of Crestron window shades of any size. It provides more torque in a smaller package than any other shade motor. This reduces power consumption and allows it to be paired with shades ranging from just 17-inches to over 10-feet wide, with no difference in operating noise and performance. [Note added 3/18/2014: Using the current series of shade hardware, the minimum bracket-to-bracket width for the Digital QMT motor is 21". New hardware will be introduced to enable bracket-to-bracket widths as low as 17.25".] No other shade motor can fit into such narrow windows.

"What makes Digital QMT so unique is our brushless motor design," said Charlie Derk, Technology Manager, Shading Solutions at Crestron. "Brushes in a DC motor are the one component that wears over time, causing the motor to fail. Our new brushless motor raises the bar. It provides greater reliability, much longer life, and ultra-quiet operation." Additionally, Crestron Variable Speed Control (VSC) technology enables the speed of the motor to be adjusted on the fly in 1/10 RPM increments. This provides super-smooth starting and stopping.

        Intelligent new power supply
Crestron shade motors are about to receive a boost with the new CSA-PWS10S-HUB-CAEN power supply. It delivers several distinct advantages for shading professionals. It can power up to ten motorized shades, each with its own fuse. The integrated five-segment Cresnet® hub provides an isolated control network for each pair of shades, therefore limiting the impact of any wiring faults. The power supply ships ready to mount on the wall or pre-installed in a 1x1 CAEN enclosure for easy, clean installation.

The CSA-PWS10S-HUB-CAEN can be integrated to work with all Crestron shade motors and includes built-in diagnostics that make it simple for shading professionals to identify broken wires, shorts, and blown fuses. The convenient push-button controls on the supply housing make it simpler for an installer or technician to test for proper operation prior to system commissioning directly from the supply location.

The only complete home automation solution
"Digital QMT is another checkmark on the list of advantages that make up 'The Crestron Difference'," added Derk. "With our newly expanded selection of fabrics, hardware, and finish options we offer everything you need for a complete shading solution. And we're the only company that can offer shading solutions that work seamlessly with lighting, AV, climate, and security systems. As a result, our customers enjoy the most intelligent, reliable, and comprehensive home automation solution available."
