Crestron Unveils New 4K Ultra HD Video Distribution Technology at CEDIA EXPO 2013

4K-compliant DigitalMedia™ Matrix Switchers and new HDMI® over HDBaseT® family of extenders bring home entertainment alive with the highest available HD resolutions

4K Ultra HD TV is coming and Crestron DigitalMedia is ready. At CEDIA EXPO in Denver, September 26 - 28, Crestron revealed its new family of HDMI® over HDBaseT® extenders, which transmit and receive 4K content using standard CAT5e/UTP cables. In addition, Crestron DigitalMedia matrix switchers, ranging from the 8X8 model to the newest 128X128 edition, are ready for 4K support.

"From the content side, 4K is quickly taking a foothold in the consumer market. However, up until now, video distribution technology was not available to transmit 4K content throughout the home, to multiple rooms, or over long distances," said Justin Kennington, Technology Manager for DigitalMedia™. "As usual, when it comes to emerging video distribution technology in the digital arena, Crestron is taking the lead - this time with the first 4K solution."

The HD-EXT3-C and HD-EXT4-C support 4K resolution content and can transmit HDMI long distance via HDBaseT using standard CAT5e/UTP cable. Both the HD-EXT3-C and HD-EXT4-C support 4K signals and extend uncompressed, HDCP-protected HDMI content up to 330 feet (100 meters) via HDBaseT without any signal degradation. Transmitters may be mounted in a single gang wall box and are available with black or white faceplates. They can also be easily rack mounted.

        About 4K Ultra HD
At a display resolution up to 4096x2160, Ultra HD TVs provide resolutions that are four times higher than the current standard of Full HD 1920x1080, also commonly referred to as 1080p. Just as 720p, and then 1080p quickly became high-definition display standards in the last decade, the prevailing trend is that Ultra HD is on its way to becoming a format for broadcast television and enjoying movies in the home.
