Enhancing the Audio Experience
with Crestron’s XiO Cloud® Service

Audio reinforcement has been an integral part of systems design for as long as AV has been used for videoconferencing, collaboration, and the presentation of content. There’s always been a need for speakers, amplifiers, audio mixing, and digital signal processing in large meeting rooms, lecture halls, training facilities, and entertainment applications and venues.

That need now extends to more and more spaces — for two reasons:

  1. Hybrid meeting spaces — of every size — demand quality audio, from speakers to microphones.

  2. The expectation of the end user is higher than ever. Everyone can get a great meeting experience with their phones or laptops when working remotely, but there’s a need to provide the same excellent AV experience in all spaces (and in mixed-use cases) where some participants are in those spaces, and some are remote.

Any audio experience is only as good as the setup or configuration of a sound system for its given room or application. Poor audio can have a negative impact on the overall user experience in any space, so having the right tools to deliver great sound is critical. Every device in a system must be set up so that everyone in a given space has a consistent experience, no matter where they sit.

Configuring room audio demands a prescriptive approach when defining the settings for each space, which can be extremely time-consuming. That’s compounded when the same settings need to be replicated across many different spaces throughout an organization — especially for a company with global reach.

A cloud solution

Enter Crestron’s XiO Cloud® platform. XiO Cloud is ideal for managing audio environments that include Digital Signal Processors (DSP), amplifiers, microphones, and speakers. XiO Cloud optimizes workplace technology operations and maximizes room uptime efficiently and at scale.

With XiO Cloud, you can monitor and manage all the audio devices (and other devices as well) throughout an organization, no matter the size. XiO Cloud manages both Crestron and third-party audio devices, remotely oversees device lifecycles, maintains operations standards, and provides enhanced insights into these diverse technologies.

An excellent example of how XiO Cloud works with those third-party audio devices can be found in Crestron’s work with Shure, a leading manufacturer of microphones and other audio products. Shure’s IntelliMix® Room software DSP is now supported in Crestron XiO Cloud. Developed in a close partnership between Shure and Crestron, this integration allows XiO Cloud users to add the IntelliMix Room Audio Processing Software to any space. Users will benefit from a single pane of glass for managing and monitoring Crestron devices, as well as the Shure IntelliMix room solutions at scale. Additionally, no DSP hardware is required, which simplifies installation.

The data Crestron’s implementing — both current and future — with Shure Audio Intellimix includes status info, alerts, and reboot actions on peripherals — whether that’s microphones or any other Shure devices connected to the IntelliMix Room (IMXR) Audio Processing Software. Alerts and status info on licenses, alerts on license and driver statuses, and actions from peripheral default resets to firmware updates are also part of the package.

Third parties, one solution

As we have seen with Shure, more and more third-party devices are entering the room, including control, content distribution, video conferencing, amplifiers and speakers, and wireless presentation.

Crestron further integrates with third-party audio providers to enhance the customer experience with complementary technologies. Audio technology needs will see increased demand as we continue to depend on conferencing and engagement with audio and video formats.

Room uptimes and performance have become paramount based on the rapid adoption of “Work From Home” environments. Users expect the same kind of reliable, intuitive experience in the office that they have at home, no matter the space. It’s incumbent upon firms who have adopted hybrid work models to “make the commute worth it.”

Crestron’s XiO Cloud is a powerful tool that delivers the ability to manage and monitor these experiences remotely to make sure that the AV support for conferencing is optimized. To that end, the Crestron XiO cloud solution is uniquely qualified for this since it’s a single platform — a platform that, in the near future, will even be able to deploy an audio configuration and push it out to each device throughout the organization.

Crestron’s partnership with Shure is just one example of many third-party integrations that are possible with the Crestron XiO Cloud solution. To learn more, contact a Crestron professional.
