Introducing the DM NVX 384
The new DM NVX® 384 encoder/decoder is a feature-packed solution that represents the next generation of AV-over-IP technology
October 23

When Crestron cooked up the concept of a “DM NVX AV-over-IP” week, the notion began with a nod to shipping the one-millionth device in that product line. That kind of success — hitting that number in less than a decade — deserved recognition. The idea grew beyond that, as Crestron’s EVP of Global Marketing, Brad Hintze says: “Our overall goal became to drive awareness to the breadth and strength of the DM NVX technology platform by highlighting the success we’re seeing in the market, re-telling the story about what the technology is and what it means to customers, and, most importantly, arming professionals with the knowledge they need to specify, install, and support this technology.”

“Oh, and to introduce new additions to the DM NVX family,” he adds.

The week became more than a look back — beyond a flurry of training events and awards (including a program that honored dealers for their integrations that specifically put DM NVX® AV-over-IP at their center), it’s also the perfect time to roll out the next generation of devices. Topping that list is the new DM NVX 384 encoder/decoder, a feature-packed addition that represents the next generation of AV-over-IP technology. “The headlines on the DM NVX 384: with USB-C connectivity, the ability to switch between four inputs, and its stellar performance in the arenas of unified communications, digital signage, and presentation spaces,” says Hintze. (More on that in a moment.)

The Features of the DM NVX 384

In addition to the DM NVX 384 encoder/decoder functionality — and the fact that it’s been painstakingly engineered to ensure it’s scalable, flexible, efficient, and secure — there are some other key features that stand out:

  • USB-C Connectivity — “There’s been a huge demand for this,” says Delix Alex, Crestron’s director of product management for AV solutions. “Modern laptops, smartphones, and tablets all support USB-C. With the DM NVX 384, we have USB-C connectivity that will provide a video input, and also get USB connectivity peripherals — such as a webcam, speakerphone, or conferencing device — back to a user's laptop,” he notes. “Of course, the popularity of USB-C connectivity makes it a must for residential projects.”
  • Multi-input Switching — “In addition to the two USB-C connections, the device has two HDMI inputs, making it a four-input switcher,” says Alex. “DM NVX AV-over-IP units with multiple inputs have been vital for a lot of residential and marine projects,” he adds. “In other applications, when customers have a bunch of sources at a lectern, podium, and so on, it gives you the ability to switch those sources. It's very common in educational settings, for example.”
  • 5K Support — “5K is becoming fairly common with 21:9 and 32:9 displays, sometimes referred to as ‘super-wide’ and ‘ultra-wide displays,’” says Alex. “It first became a hot topic when Microsoft introduced Front Row, a content layout for participants in Microsoft Teams Rooms, which leverages a 21:9 configuration. That's great for maximizing on-screen real estate, but how do you transport and extend that? And that's where DM NVX 384 comes in.”

“This latest addition to the DM NVX AV-over-IP family of solutions is yet another representation of the philosophies that inform these Crestron products,” says Hintze. “First, scalability: customers need technology in more spaces and with more sophisticated deployments,” he adds. “They need technology that easily scales to support them.” That’s true in both growing enterprises and residential, hotel, or marine projects that evolve and expand. Mix in the line’s reputation for reliability, durability, and near-zero latency, and it’s easy to see why DM NVX technology remains a go-to solution for dealers creating AV systems for everything from enterprise businesses to elegant homes.

“The other is the desire for seamless integrations,” says Hintze. “Customers need an open ecosystem that enables them to leverage the best technologies on the market to create impactful and interesting spaces. When they’re limited to only one manufacturer or platform, clients can feel like their hands are tied.”

And as Crestron marks the shipping of one million DM NVX® AV-over-IP devices, the team is looking forward to the next million. “As technology continues to evolve, we will stay on the forefront of bringing the right protocols and integrations together on this platform,” says Hintze. “As resolutions get better, we will support them as well. DM NVX technology was designed for continual evolution and improvement, and we’ll continue to do that to deliver the flexibility and scalability customers expect.”
