Configure Pro: Crestron Home OS Configuration Tool for Dealers
A new benchmark for how best‑in‑class smart home experiences are crafted and delivered

Crestron Home OS 4.11: Configure Pro Is Now the Standard

Crestron Home® OS updates often focus primarily on the user experience: new features and functionalities, more third-party solutions, and so on. The introduction of Crestron Home OS 4 saw a significant upgrade in personalization, performance, and aesthetics for homeowners, making the platform speedier and more intuitive than ever. Throughout these updates, tweaks were made to the backend to help dealers with installation and deployment, but as the platform evolved, it became clear that the configuration tool needed a thorough update, too.

Which brings us to Configure Pro.

Developing Configure Pro

“After many, many conversations with our dealers, it became clear that they needed a tool that gave them all the speed and flexibility we could deliver,” says Jasmine Jin, a senior product manager of software applications at Crestron who’s tasked with turning dealer requests into realties. “The main goal of Configure Pro is helping dealers accelerate Crestron Home OS deployment at scale.”

As with most good things, the development of Configure Pro didn’t happen overnight. After nearly a year of dealer feedback, iterative development, and rigorous system testing, Configure Pro is ready to officially launch as the primary Crestron Home OS configuration tool. Configure Pro retains the full power and flexibility of the Crestron Home Set Up App, reimagined within a modern, easy‑to‑use platform built for faster growth and innovation.

“This release establishes a new benchmark for how best‑in‑class smart home experiences are crafted and delivered,” says Michael Short, VP of marketing operations and residential at Crestron. “This raises the bar for the entire pro technology integration industry. And it’s now ready to be used every day, on every Crestron Home OS project, by our dealer community.”

A New Approach

That dealer community was instrumental in the realization of Configure Pro. In addition to listening to dealers and including those features that modern integration projects now demand, Crestron’s engineering team had a group of “early access” dealers who were able to use Configure Pro in real-world deployments and offer their suggestions, evaluations, and analyses.

One of those dealers is Ben Goers, owner of Lava Integrated Technologies. “It’s been a nice shift to finally move toward more of a software-driven approach,” he says. “As dealers, we’ve been asking for this for quite some time. As the platform continues to grow and more functionality gets added, Configure Pro feels like a critical step in making sure we have access to new features and can implement them into our programming efficiently.”

A great example of that new functionality in action is the Scene Management feature. “Scene Management was a direct result of the feedback we got from dealers during last year’s CEDIA Expo,” says Jin. “This feature enables dealers to select loads across multiple rooms in a ‘Tree View’ and apply bulk actions with a single click to speed up scene creation.”

The Mission Behind Configure Pro

Of course, Scene Management is just one aspect of what the software offers. “The Tree View in the platform is built for speed, and we’ve added a lot of hyperlinks across the app to make it much easier to move from place to place or head right to a web browser to connect to a device's web interface,” says Jin. The ‘Search’ feature is much more robust, too. For example, you can filter through all the third-party drivers in your project without having to select a device type and manufacturer first.”

The app also features a new sequence editor, as Crestron’ Senior Director of Product Management for Software Platforms Doug Jacobson explains in the video below:

What's most exciting is a brand new sequence editor, which presents actions in an easy-to-read format, making it much easier to create and visualize complex logic like delays, variables, and conditionals. Now creating sequences is not only more intuitive, but it's also easier to understand how they behave. That's especially useful when you're revisiting a system you haven't touched in a while or when editing one originally built by a colleague.

Built for Speed

Multi-user simultaneous editing is also something that didn't exist before in the “backend” of Crestron Home OS, and dealers will find this new feature immensely helpful. “Dealers will often have a team of multiple technicians on site, working on different areas of the house,” explains Jin. “Perhaps one will be working on lighting, one on shades, another on media. With Configure Pro, they no longer need to wait for their turns to access the processor, and it’s obvious how this can cut their on-site time significantly.”

“Configure Pro also lets the installer access multiple processors on the same computer, so it’s easier to configure them together or view them side by side for reference,” she adds. “In a large setup, it’s common to have a parent processor and multiple child processors. With Configure Pro, dealers can open multiple instances and configure them at the same time without switching back and forth.”

“Being able to work from a laptop, to have multiple instances of the software open and running at once, and the ability to scale to different window sizes — these may seem like small things to most, but they all add up,” says Goers. “Those efficiencies within the software make a real difference in how quickly we’re able to move through projects while still maintaining the high level of quality our clients expect from us.”

Built for Dealers

Goers notes that the development of those efficiencies was closely tied to the real-world testing that he and several other “early-access” dealers undertook. “There was a great line of communication established throughout the entire beta process,” he says. “I genuinely felt like we were being listened to. While we may not get everything we want right out of the gate, the critical pieces we asked for were added, and in some cases, even improved beyond what we were originally asking for.

“It’s great to feel like your voice is being heard and to be part of the process. Being able to contribute to an end product that helps all of us as dealers is something I really value.”

And as Configure Pro was being readied for prime time, Goers and others appreciated the thought that went into the software’s interface. “The learning curve was very minimal, if it existed at all,” he says. “Everything is laid out intuitively and works the way you would expect it to. The standardized navigation and text entry fields felt very natural, so our technicians were able to get comfortable with it quickly.”

Built to Evolve

Much like the Crestron Home OS itself, Configure Pro is a foundation — one that’s built to evolve. “It’s important to note that we will be updating Configure Pro on a rolling basis to add more features and improvements from initial launch,” says Jin. Those updates won’t happen without dealer feedback, either. “Creating the right ‘Remote Access’ feature comes up in almost every single dealer conversation we have, and refining that’s going to be a priority,” she notes.

Goers and his peers have seen that development firsthand. “Configure Pro is a huge step forward from the previous setup platform, and it’s growing by the day,” he says. “There’s no better time than now to dig in, get comfortable with it, and embrace where the platform is heading. I feel like there are a lot of good things still to come, and I’m excited to see the continued development of the software and the platform as a whole.”

“Configure Pro brings a faster, cleaner configuration process to every project,” says Short. “And that means your team spends less time troubleshooting and more time delivering experiences that genuinely impress.”
