A New Update: 1 Beyond Cameras 2.0 Firmware

When Crestron introduced its latest line of 1 Beyond cameras last year, the release featured a groundbreaking feature: intelligent switching. As we noted on the Crestron blog:

Among the many advantages of these new offerings: Deploying a multi-camera solution with Crestron 1 Beyond cameras — driven by Visual AI for group framing and presenter tracking — can enable you to automatically switch between two cameras in a room — one group framing everyone at the table and one tracking a presenter. By connecting the primary camera to your video conferencing system, you’re then able to have that primary device output the feed of the secondary camera automatically when someone moves into the presentation area.

Now we’re building on that breakthrough with a new firmware release: our 1 Beyond cameras 2.0 update now supports intelligent switching for more cameras than ever before. This meets the growing demand for streamlined multi-camera options — and includes additional features that provide more cutting-edge intelligent video technology.

Expanding Intelligent Switching to More 1 Beyond Cameras in a Room

The update is a step forward for our intelligent switching technology, which previously supported two 1 Beyond cameras. Previously, an i12 camera would serve as the primary device, switching between itself and one other “presenter” companion camera, either another i12 or an i20. With the new firmware, up to five cameras can be leveraged in a room.

Switching can be done automatically using visual cues or by leveraging a custom Crestron control module tied to other triggers. In both cases, the setup is still streamlined with a USB connection from the primary camera (i12) to the video conferencing platform. From there, intelligent switching can support up to four companion cameras in addition to the primary camera.

Users can create their own custom control programs, and switching can include both i-Series and p-Series 1 Beyond cameras. A Crestron module can help integrators create custom programs based on triggers from ceiling microphones. And there’s another key feature here: the firmware allows you to prioritize essential areas in a space — next to a whiteboard, for example. If someone enters a higher-priority presentation zone, the cameras will switch automatically. (A note: If you’re using intelligent switching based on visual cues, your companion cameras should be all presenter tracking cameras, the i12 or i20.

The 1 Beyond camera 2.0 firmware is available as a free upgrade to the following:

Recallable Presenter Tracking Profiles

This firmware update offers features that extend beyond the ability to add more companion cameras. There’s now a “Home Position” function for p-Series cameras, recallable presenter tracking profiles in i20 cameras, “Face Priority Focus” on p-Series cameras for Automate VX multi-camera speaker tracking solution, and seamless DM NVX® AV-over-IP technology.

Recallable Presenter Tracking Profiles in i20 Cameras

This feature allows users to save and recall up to four tracking profile in an i20 camera. Each tracking profile can contain different settings, including a presentation/tracking zone, home and tracking shots, blocking zones (so that cameras “block” faces in that zone — by the window of a conference room where people may pass by, for example), and preset zones. It’s ideal for flexible spaces with different room configurations where the presentation area may change from meeting to meeting. These tracking profiles can be called up using presets 105-108 — those are reserved for this function and can be changed on the fly.

Face Priority Focus on p-Series for Automate VX Solution

“Face Priority” will be an available focus option on p-Series camera in addition to auto and manual focus. In this mode, the camera will detect when faces are in the shot and adjust the focus to prioritize the most prominent faces among them. This feature is intended to be used primarily when 1 Beyond p-Series cameras are driven by the Automate VX multi-camera speaker tracking solution.

Home Position for p-Series Cameras

This feature allows for the start-up position of p-Series cameras to be configured to a set location. That means the 1 Beyond camera automatically returns to its home position after either rebooting or exiting privacy mode. It’s ideal when p-Series cameras are directly connected to a video conferencing codec and need to point to a desired location, such as a whiteboard, a lectern or podium, or even a specific area in a room. The feature works well with solutions such as Multiple Camera View in a Microsoft Teams® Rooms meeting.

DM NVX AV-over-IP Integration

Because it’s all part of the Crestron ecosystem, integrating with DM NVX AV-over-IP gives you a seamless option for extending USB video from a 1 Beyond camera. The camera does not need to be configured, and it works with any DM NVX system that supports a USB extension. It’s a great solution for integrating 1 Beyond camera technology into your existing infrastructure.

Crestron understands that the needs of the modern work environment are constantly evolving, creating demand for more robust solutions. Firmware updates like this one are driven by dealer and client feedback, and because we’re attuned to your needs, we’re always ready to meet the moment.
