How Crestron is Advancing Sustainability with Purpose

In the AV industry, technology doesn’t just power content, collaboration, and control — the three areas of focus for Crestron that have made us an industry leader — it shapes our environmental footprint. Every device we design and deploy has an impact. As organizations across the world set ambitious sustainability goals, AV technology must evolve to support greater efficiency, longer product life cycles, and responsible end-of-life planning.

At Crestron, we believe sustainability is not an optional initiative — it’s a core responsibility. Guided by our True Blue commitments, we’re working to embed environmental stewardship and responsible innovation in the solutions we build and partnerships we cultivate.

Our Partnership with SAVe

Crestron has partnered with an organization called SAVe since April 2024. SAVe, Sustainability in AV, is the first US-based nonprofit that aligns the AV industry with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Their mission focuses on measurable progress, education, and the adoption of best practices across every stage of the AV lifecycle: design, manufacturing, installation, and disposal.

"SAVe is an all-volunteer, US-based 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to bring stakeholders together in the AV industry to do our part in taking concerted action to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals."
Christina De Bono
SAVe President and Founder

Over the past year, Crestron worked closely with SAVe to help drive awareness and accelerate impact through meaningful industry involvement.

Here is a look at how we’ve turned that commitment into action:

SAVe Sustainability Summit

On August 13, 2025, we brought 50 Crestron employees to Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory for a full day of learning and collaboration. The event focused on applying systems thinking and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to Crestron’s sustainability strategy. Attendees participated in educational sessions led by internal and external experts, including SAVe founder Christina DeBono and Ph.D. candidate in environmental science Caitlin Locke, and engaged in a hands-on workshop to brainstorm environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives. As part of this summit, Crestron began shaping key areas of focus for its sustainability efforts, laying the groundwork for shaping goals and action planning. This summit reflects Crestron’s commitment to move beyond dialogue to integrate sustainability into its operations through cross-functional collaboration, employee engagement, and informed planning. The event helped us define key sustainability priorities and set the stage for actionable goals.

SAVe Global Conference

Crestron joined industry leaders in the Sustainability in Manufacturing panel at UCLA’s Luskin Center on September 25, 2025. We shared insights on reducing environmental impact through sustainable design, energy efficiency, and circular economy principles — reinforcing our role as a leader in responsible innovation. The panel, moderated by Senior Sustainability Program Manager at Crestron Mike Rogers, featured industry leaders, including Wendy Feldstein, Crestron SVP of design, who discussed the role of manufacturers in advancing sustainability across the AV sector.

Topics included:

  • Aligning manufacturing practices in the AV industry with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Strategies for reducing environmental impact through sustainable product design, energy efficiency, and circular economy principles.
  • Navigating evolving regulatory obligations and ESG reporting requirements.
  • Promoting cross-functional collaboration and cultural shifts within organizations to embed sustainability into core operations.
  • Reinforcing Crestron’s commitment to industry-wide collaboration, continuous learning, and discussion of the issues at hand.

Designing for Sustainability Webinar

In May 2025, Crestron hosted the “Designing for Sustainability” webinar, bringing together AV professionals and sustainability advocates to explore actionable strategies for greener AV solutions. Featuring insights from SAVe and Crestron leaders, the session covered sustainable design practices, product use cases, and AV industry preparation for the 2030 Sustainability Goals. Attendees received the Guide to Sustainable AV Design and Installation, offering practical steps for cleaner installations, resource conservation, and extending equipment life. Three hundred thirty-eight participants joined the one-hour session, gaining valuable tools to integrate sustainability into their AV projects. If you missed it, watch this webinar on demand or view the Guide to Sustainable AV Design and Installation.

SAVe held its first global conference in March 2022 — shortly after it was established — to educate and inspire like-minded members of the AV industry.

Our Dedication to Sustainability Begins with “Blue” — True Blue

There’s a guiding philosophy at Crestron — something we refer to as “True Blue.” True Blue represents Crestron’s commitment to being exceptional in everything we do. It reflects our belief that excellence means doing what’s right — for our customers, our communities, and our environment.

When it comes to sustainability, Crestron strives to:

More Sustainable Packaging: Crestron is actively transforming our product packaging by transitioning away from non-sustainable materials, such as plastic, foam, non-recyclable plastic bags, and thermoform inserts, replacing them with more environmentally responsible alternatives.

Energy Conservation Products: Crestron designs products to help reduce energy consumption through automation and promote environmental sustainability.

Quality: At Crestron, we are dedicated to exceeding customer expectations by providing high-quality products and solutions. We strive for product longevity through extensive quality testing, sustainable engineering processes, and post-sales service and support resources.

Supply Chain and Sustainable Sourcing: Crestron is dedicated to responsible sourcing, promoting ethical and sustainable practices throughout our supply chain. We are focused on promoting reduction of environmental impact, and recognition of human rights and fair labor practices.

And much more. Learn more about our additional commitments in our Sustainability Report.

We’re aware that there’s more work ahead — it’s work we’re committed to. Our partnership with SAVe represents an important step forward, helping us learn from industry leaders and apply new standards that create lasting change.
