Crestron Home OS 4.9: Crestron DIN-DLI Now Supports DT8 Tunable White

Digital lighting is reaching a level of maturity that’s solidifying its stature as nothing short of revolutionary. “Digital lighting is no longer a niche — it’s becoming the new standard,” says Crestron’s Michael Short, VP of marketing operations and residential.

“Although control is what we’re probably best known for, we see digital lighting as more than just that — it’s about creating experiences,” he adds. “Whether it’s tunable white for wellness, color temperature for ambiance, or integration with the rest of the smart home, digital lighting is the backbone of modern living.

With this iteration of the Crestron Home OS — version 4.9 — we introduce support for the major update in the Crestron DIN-DLI lighting module, which now features DALI DT8 tunable white capabilities.

“It’s about moving beyond legacy lighting systems and embracing a future where lighting is intelligent, dynamic, and deeply integrated,” says Short.

DT8 Tunable White Support

Those were the driving forces behind the creation of Crestron’s DIN-DLI controller, released back in April of 2025. As we noted then:

As with any smart home technology, clients want lighting control that’s efficient, powerful, reliable, and easy to use. Enter the Crestron DIN-DLI, a next-generation DALI® lighting controller designed to simplify complexity for integrators and bring the beauty of dynamic lighting to a homeowner’s fingertips.

Now, there’s another step in its evolution: DT8 Tunable White support is officially live, unlocking dynamic color temperature control — and, of course, this is now available natively within the Crestron Home OS. “Support for DT8 Tunable White from the DIN-DLI solutions is huge,” says Short. “This means integrators can deliver dynamic color temperature control without extra processors or complex programming; no special packets or channel juggling.”

The DIN-DLI Advantage

There’s more to the Crestron DIN-DLI than DT8 (Tc) support, as Short explains: “Integrators have long struggled with the complexity of DALI systems — especially when it comes to commissioning, compatibility, and integrating tunable white fixtures. DIN-DLI was built to eliminate those pain points. Its web interface simplifies commissioning with tools such as fixture identification, scene creation, and device grouping — all without requiring third-party software.

“And because it’s designed for the Crestron Home OS, it removes the need for custom programming or additional processors,” he adds. “It’s a purpose-built solution that makes DALI feel as intuitive as any other Crestron subsystem.” The Crestron Home OS gives the end-user (and the integrator) full control of individual fixtures, groups, and scenes — all from a single, intuitive interface. For dealers, its web-based commissioning tool means setup is faster and easier than ever. “It’s a product that truly reflects our commitment to making digital lighting accessible and elegant,’ says Short.

Crestron DIN-DLI Lighting Control: Key Features

  • DT8 (Tc) Support: Allows for control of tunable white and color temperature directly, eliminating compatibility issues and simplifying color control.
  • Seamless Crestron Home OS Integration: Installers can integrate DALI lighting directly into Crestron Home OS without additional processors or custom programming, offering full control of individual devices, groups, and tunable white functionality.
  • Intuitive Web Interface: The UI helps dealers commission and manage any DALI lighting control system with ease. Discover, address, group, create scenes, adjust device settings, and troubleshoot all from a user-friendly web UI, which includes a patented fixture identification tool for quick device location.
  • Simplified Installation: DIN-DLI gives dealers module-to-module quick connections for Cresnet® communications and Override, spring terminals for DALI wiring, and a reduced footprint, making installation faster and easier.
  • Enhanced DALI Performance: Dynamic fade times, accelerated color temperature recall, and automatic detection of DALI device types (including tunable white, switched loads, and emergency loads) all deliver a superior lighting experience.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: DIN-DLI offers a smaller footprint and a competitive price, especially for single-loop applications.

Much More than One Protocol

The Crestron Home OS supports much more than a single protocol, as Short notes: “It’s a true digital lighting platform — capable of supporting DALI, DMX, Hue, and more.” Its adaptable nature means integrators don’t have to choose between flexibility and simplicity — one can mix and match fixtures based on design needs and still deliver a consistent control experience. For homeowners, it’s frictionless — no matter what’s behind the scenes, the interface remains intuitive and powerful.

“That’s the core of its brilliance, “says Short. “The Crestron Home OS creates a unified experience across all lighting protocols. Whether you’re using DMF PhaseX fixtures, integrating with Lutron or Philips Hue, or deploying DMX for color control, Crestron Home OS brings it all together. DIN-DLI is our answer to the DALI side of that equation, and it’s built to scale, from single-room residential installations to the largest projects. It reflects our belief that lighting should be robust, flexible, and easy to control, regardless of the underlying technology.”

Partnerships for More Options

To give integrators — and their clients — the broadest portfolio of solutions, Crestron partners with a wide variety of other manufacturers. “One of the most exciting is our partnership with DMF Lighting and their PhaseX platform,” says Short. (PhaseX® lighting control technology utilizes an extremely rugged communication protocol over existing AC wiring.) “With PhaseX, we’re able to offer dimming precision and DMF fixture quality that matches the sophistication of our control systems. It’s a perfect example of how we’re aligning with premium fixture manufacturers to deliver best-in-class performance.”

“We also integrate with Lutron, Philips Hue, and others because we believe in openness and choice,” he adds. “Our goal is to be the control platform that brings all these technologies together in a way that’s elegant, reliable, and scalable.”

This latest evolution in lighting is just another step in an ongoing process at Crestron. “We’re continuing to invest in tools that make commissioning easier, control more intuitive, and integration more flexible,” says Short.“The DIN-DLI is just the beginning. As we expand our platform, you’ll see more innovations that empower integrators and delight homeowners.

“And Crestron is proud to be leading the way.”

Your body runs on a 24-hour cycle called a circadian rhythm. Lighting affects one major aspect of it: your sleep-wake cycle. Replicating natural light provided by the cycles of the sun with artificial light can improve your mood, concentration, creativity, and energy levels, as well as promote better sleep. This can be accomplished using tunable LED light fixtures and technology such as the Crestron SolarSync® photosensor.
