Beyond the Bath
While bathrooms were once the primary location for these devices, the team at Opale has seen a massive shift in that thinking. “Main living areas, bedrooms, private gyms, indoor pools — there’s demand for these solutions in nearly every space in the high-end residential market,” says Poitevin. “In luxury hospitality installations, mirror TVs are becoming the centerpiece of the bedroom, offering guests technology that doesn't disrupt the room's decor. Our displays thrive in environments where the client demands both high-performance entertainment and an uncluttered, elegant atmosphere.”
“For our clients, it is about the luxury of choice,” he adds. “They use our products exactly like high-end cinema displays to enjoy 4K content, but with a tremendous added benefit: When the TV is off, it is a stunning, functional mirror that enhances the sense of space. It allows a superyacht owner, for example, to have a massive screen in their master cabin without sacrificing the minimalist aesthetic of the woodwork or the view.”
There’s a drive in modern luxury installations to eliminate the notion of a switched-off television as “dead space.” “Design is the heartbeat of our development process,” explains Poitevin. “A standard television is an aesthetic void when turned off — a black rectangle. We solve this by turning that 'dead space' into a functional work of art. We balance this by ensuring that the 'hidden' technology is even more robust than a standard TV. By focusing on slim profiles and bespoke finishes, we ensure that the technology serves the architecture, not the other way around.”
