The Crestron Home OS: Validated System Size Increase

Every project has its own particular scope. And for dealers working on large estates, expansive vacation properties, or multi-building installations, that scope may present a nagging question for the integrator:

Will the platform keep up?

With the release of Crestron Home® OS 4.10, the answer is a confident yes — and then some. Crestron has significantly increased the validated maximum system sizes across all supported processors, giving you more headroom to design, scope, and deliver the most ambitious projects your clients can dream up.

What This Means for Your Projects

These increases span every major device category and apply across the MC4-R, DIN-AP4-R, and CP4-R processing systems — as well as multi-processor configurations.

For example, here's what's changed for the CP4-R in a single-processor setup:

  • Lighting Loads: 300 → 500
  • Thermostats: 32 → 100
  • Streaming Cameras: 25 → 100
  • AV Receivers: 6 → 24
  • Crestron Speaker Zones: 56 → 100
  • Rooms: Up to 250
  • Apple TV® Media Extender with Apple® HomeKit® Software: 5 → 25
  • Locks: 6 → 16
  • Security Systems: 2 → 3
  • Child Processors: 4 → 10

For multi-processor systems, the numbers climb even further — up to 1,000 lighting loads, 100 cameras, and 100 thermostats across a full installation.

The increase in child processor support from four to 10 in the above example is especially noteworthy. It opens up new architectural possibilities for complex, multi-zone systems, especially when combined with the expanded lighting, climate, AV, and camera limits.

These aren't theoretical numbers. Every configuration reflected here has been validated through rigorous internal testing. When you scope a project against these figures, you're building on a foundation that Crestron has already stress-tested on your behalf.

Guidance — Not Hard Caps

One important note on how to use these numbers: the validated system sizes are intended as sizing guidance, not absolute limits. Depending on your system design, feature usage, and device mix, individual category counts may reasonably vary above these values. If your project exceeds documented counts, Crestron Sales Support is available to discuss your options.

This distinction matters. It means you're not designing to a hard wall — you're designing to a well-tested, reliable benchmark with room to flex based on the specifics of the job.

The updated system size documentation is now live in the Crestron Home manual, which you can review here. We recommend bookmarking it as a go-to reference when scopin your next large project.

Crestron Home OS was built on the promise of a smarter, simpler smart home. And now it’s also built for the biggest, most ambitious jobs in the industry.
